Office dress code
 

I love some of the muppets I work for. I just received an email, which was sent to everyone in the company. Basically "This is your last warning, adhere to the dress code, or you'll be sent home & to change & not paid for the time you're gone."

We have a 'smart casual' dress code. Basically, shoes, trousers (no jeans) or a dress/skirt (not too short) if you're a lady & a shirt/blouse or polo-shirt.

I replied in my own unique tounge in cheek way by sending an email back "So where do I stand on the dress code with my bike textile trousers? Yes, they're all black, but how do they fit into the policy?"

The response I got was "You will have to go home & change."

Now, can you guess my response?

1) Bike trousers are an item of safety clothing for the transport I use to commute.
2) If the sun is shining, I'm more than happy to be sent home to change, but please note, I'll be coming back to work on the bike, meaning I'm wearing my bike trousers again. Does this mean I'll be sent home yet again? If so, I hope the sun is still shining!

I just neglected to tell the perticular director in question that I more often than not wear work trousers under my bike trousers, and with the air conditioning in the office, sometimes I just can't be bothered taking them off. It's not like I sweat in them or anything, and sat at a desk all day, they're more than comfy.

Should I raise the issue of my bike boots as well? Since they're black, and by the stuff in black & white about the policy, they're allowed. :D

If your trousers and boots are black and they look smart, there's sod all they can do, had the same argument with my old company.
You always get some idiot who just likes to annoy people cos they've had an argument with the missus.:smt014

My work 'officially' operates a smart casual dress policy too. In reality, they don't care what I wear to the office though, so long as I'm smart when I go out to meet clients. Part of the reason I wear altberg boots rather than 'normal' bike boots is that given a lick of polish they pass for smart shoes at a glance, once you have trousers over the tops of them.

We have a smart, business casual policy here. Though at the moment I have on a shirt and pair of cream combats, plus shoes. Normally I bring the combats in on monday and leave them at my desk for the week, and my shoes I keep at work anyway. Though in the winter, I just wear my combats under my textile trousers. Just bought some hood jeans though and they do a 'smart' version for wearing in work. Think they call them there H-2 jean, maybe you want to get some of those.
