Insurance and road tax

Quick question: My bike is unrideable at the moment cos of the crash. I am aware that I still need to have it taxed even though I am not riding it unless I declare it SORNed (which I am not going to do for only a month), but my insurance renewel is coming on the 15th of May, and I was wondering if I was allowed to leave it uninsured for a bit until I have fixed it? Or do you HAVE to have insurance even if you aren't riding it at the moment?

Cheers,
Nick

TBH Declaring SORN is so easy (do it online) do that for a month and then tax the bike when it is rideable. Then insurance is up to you, in case the bike / parts are nicked kind of thing

If it's parked on the road (even if you're not riding it), you need road tax. You do not, to my knowledge, require insurance however.

If I SORN it, does it matter that it is parked on the road? I don't have a garage.

Yes, it has to be taxed to be on the road, as I understand it anyway ..... sorn means, not on the road

Yes, you can't SORN it unless it's off the road. I'm pretty sure you need insurance if its on the road too, although I'm not 100%.

what about if I stand it on some bricks? :) Pfff, thats discriminatory against people without garages! Where's my local politician?! Where's the court of human rights?! ;)

Discrimination against people who have no garage - thats a new one:jocolor:.

If you declare the bike as off the road then you have to do just that. The government dont care what you do with it - put it in your garden, bedroom or in storage.

:offtopic: I know a guy who was about to get done by the police for something or other so he dismantled his car and carried the pieces into his garden. When plod came along he said that there was no way that his car had been involved as it was in a thousand pieces out back.
He managed to get away with it as well! He was a complete:toss: so I had half a mind to tell them what he had done!
