Front suspension tips (Emulators again) :p

Hi,

I put some progressive springs and heavier oil in my front suspension a couple of weeks ago. The oil is "heavy" 10w.

What I'm finding is that the low speed has been improved, less brake dive, harder to bottom out suspension under braking/hitting bumps etc but the high speed has become more harsh over ridges etc.

I'm guessing the only real thing to do now would be buy some emulators so I can control the low/high speed in a different ratio.

Also I might try to increase the air gap to lessen the progressive ramp of the spring + air pocket combining. What do you think.

I'm interested in this thread as have just ordered some Hagon springs .
What springs did you fit ?
The chap at Hagon was really helpfull , said that the pointy kit comes with 10W oil , where as the curvys use 15 W ?

Will get em fitted next week , thought they were a bargin at 62 quid with oil & next day delivery .

A quick question how much do you weigh , I was under the understanding that if you weighed 10 - 11 stone you don't need stronger springs ?

I weigh 15 stone so need the man size springs

Cheers Steve

The man from Hagon talks b*ll*cks!

Curvy's use 10w too as standard!

I weigh in at about 11 1/2 stone in my boxers. The springs are progressives that are about equivalent to .80's, probably a bit softer to begin with then get a little harder. I'm looking to do more trackdays + spirited weekend driving so a more firm frontend is a good compromise.

There's actually quite a range of oil viscosity in the 10W division, the cST is a bit more accurate. The oil I used was Castrol synthetic fork oil @ 42cST which is very near the point that 15W oils start. Probably would have been better putting something a little thinner in.

What sag are you using? I found with these springs that you wind in the adjusters by one and a half turns and it goes from fine for me to fine for two-up, hell of a difference. 15W oil would be better than 10W so doesn't sound like that's the problem. (PS I have the same springs on my curvy plus emulators)
