Pretty much any 10w40 bike oil will do you fine. You don't have to pay for the fancy stuff.

DO NOT put car oil in your bike. Cars don't have wet clutches, bikes do. Magnetic oil on a metallic clutch plate wouldn't be nice.

The last time I put oil in the bike is was Castrol 5w40 bike oil, which is more of a track oil than a road oil, and cost £30.99 for 4ltrs, but it was a case of supply & demand. I needed oil quickly, that's all they had.

What would happen, if....say.... a complete idiot put 10W40 Castrol semi synthetic in then (Magnatec)- 1 litre's worth over 2 top ups, in, oh about 2 and a half months?

I'm sure I checked the label and it said suitable for bikes. I haven't really experienced any problems with the bike or the clutch though. What damage could be done?

I'd say run for cover - the bike's central warp core will undoubtably go critical shortly and blow, taking everything for several parsecs with it.:smt030

Yep, and that F-LUX capacitor will soon be gone so no more trips back to 1955.

Good question. If you're brave, let us know how you get along.

If you're not, oil filter out & drop the oil, flush with a good few litres of mineral oil (cheap crap) & run the engine a little to run this around the engine, repeat a couple of times. Then put some decent oil in there.

Get y'self to Hein Gericke & buy their 'Oil Deal;' £25 for 5 litres of oil, an oil filter and an air filter... Can't go wrong ;)

Blimey - that's a good deal. I use Castrol GPS 10-40W Semi synthetic and change it fairly regularly. Looks like thick Ribena ! In fact while on a recent trip to Le Mans (24 hrs bikle race - amazing but that's another story) my room mate nearly took a swig of it from a Mineral water bottle I put some in just in case I needed to top up ! Stopped him just in time - its expensive stuff :p
