Swapping Radiators

So... while swapping the forks over on my NC23 project I took this photo of the uncovered radiator:

And god is it ugly! So it got me thinking what can I stick in its place?

I want something that looks good, making brackets shouldn't be much of a problem. I have something in mind but was wondering if anyone else has done something similar on other bikes; what I should consider? What would happen if I increase the size of the rad, or for that matter decrease it?

Your thoughts please...

One thing to watch for is that surface area isn't the whole story, you can can have huge inefficient radiators... Also, sometimes the airflow means that the mddle of the radiator's quite ineffectual, and if that's the case then losing the edges of the radiator would cause disproportionate losses of cooling... Obviously be careful of wheel clearance too... Other'n that, I suppose it's a case of looking at radiators for comparable bikes and trying to find a nicer looking one really, and doing some trial and error.

Just a thought, make sure that you can get the hoses to fit. i.e. check diameters of the feeds. Dunno where off hand you'd get free form hoses either but I've not realy been looking.

@Northwind - How do I know if the rad will be inefficient?

@Beenz - Good point hadn't thought of that...

You don't :) Which is why things get tricky.

What about just cover it in gold mesh from B& Q?

What about a rad from a cb-1 (nc27)

Didn't think of that one great idea. Checked it out and they are different rads so just need to track down a couple of pics to see if its what I'm looking for.

Was thinking VFR or RVF, then I heard about them being able to take a rad from quite randomly a Peugeot Speedfight.

Alternatively if I can't find anything what can be suggested to clean it up and take it back to the bare metal?

Are they really? that surprises me as the nc27 uses the cbr engine from the nc23
