Thinking of buying
 

Hi All,

Today is both a sad and happy day for me. I have just sold my Ducati 748:( Mainly because a previously broken leg has made it uncomfortable to ride any sort of distance.

But it also means I can now bike shop!:D

I do not want anything too aggressive or super fast anymore but would like a twin so the SV seems like an obvious choice. I test rode a 2004 unfaired 650 on Saturday and think I may now join the SV club for sure! But before I bite the bullet on this deal I would love to pick some SV knowledgable brains!

Does 2500 GBP seem good value for this bike? Standard and in good condition (blue in colour)

What is the most popular choice of can for the bike on the Forum?

Lastly, being a shortie (5ft 6) I found the seat height ok but may want to drop it a tad - anyone have any experience of this ie new shock/seat etc?

Dont know about the price, but that seems reasonable, but it would depend on the milleage, service history and general condition of the bike.

As for cans, depends on budget,

Have a look at any of these the Fuel, Carbon Can Company, or if you want to spend a bit more Remus, would what I would be looking to purchase if I was starting again with my SV.

As for seat height, you've two options,

1. get the standard seat cut down to remove the foam from it, its quite a common thing to do you can do it yourself or get somebody else to do it for you.

2. Get some longer dogbones which replace the standard ones on the rear shock linkage which will lower the whole rear end, if you do this though, you'll need to drop the forks in the yokes otherwise it'll upset the geometry of the bike.

Hi and welcome aboard! I'm also quite new as I picked up my SK2 about 2 weeks ago.

I had a similar reason for looking at an SV coming from a Gixer many years ago and am sort of a born again biker. I paid £1850 for mine but it's a curvey 02 with full service history and very sweet and £19,000 miles. I'm very happy with it coming froma Gixer 750 it's a perfect fit and not so much like a cafe racer which does my hips a favour

Hi and welcome...

you think youre short at 5ft 6?? http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_3_10.gif Trust me, youre taller than quite a few SV riders ;) :p :lol: But yes its possible to get the seat lowered. Also consider some Lady Daytonas [dont be put off by the name - theyre extra heeled boots which can help].

Personally I found the SV seat uncomfortable for distance as was, let alone cutting padding out. Hence the reason if I were lowering the bike Id go for the alternative option re the dogbones and dropping the forks. :D

Have you tried the faired versions of the sv?

The curvy version is a bit roomier and slightly lower than some of the pointys, so would help both with tight riding position and limited height:p

After a faired bike is a naked the way you really want to go?

I havn't tried one but am confident I want a naked, have had naked bikes in the past so I know what to expect and they have the handy advantage of keeping speeds a little more sensible at times :p
