Maybe a stupid question on crash bobbins
I don't have these yet and am looking round.
Can someone tell me on a SK2 which frame holes they bolt into. I thought they were the kind that go right the way through the frame and bolt together with one stud but if you look at the ebay link below, these have two bolts as if the frame has a tapped thread on both sides. Or are these meant to go through another spot on the frame? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...0970&rd=1&rd=1 |
Re: Maybe a stupid question on crash bobbins
These type fit to the two engine mounts in front of the centre mount, either side of the front cylinder head.

The R&Gs are the ones that go right through the frame don't know if any of the others do that though?

Re: Maybe a stupid question on crash bobbins
Those ones are a bit ****, too... There's a few drawbacks to that design. The mounting point's not so far out so the bung have to be longer to get the same effective length- and longer means weaker, and more leverage on the mounting point too. So they end up either too short, or too weak. Also, the bolts are thinner, that's an M10 thread if memory serves. And since you're screwing into the engine, if the bolt snaps off or pulls out, you have a damaged engine mount bolt.
I like ones that go through the main engine bolt- that's the widest solid part on the bike, and means they can use a much thicker bolt. Also, if the bolt snaps or bends, it's easy to replace as it doesn't thread in. |
