cheap Alarms
 

Hi was just wondering if i can get some advice on alarms, i know you get what you pay for but im a student and as a result have very little money so am looking for a fairly cheap alarm i was looking at

Any advice on positive or negatives of these alarms from any one who has them would be great thanks. ( bike its going onto is a 1999 curvy)

I fitted an acumen alarm to a previous bike. It was easy to fit, did what it was meant to and I had no problems at all in two years.

All the normal provisos about alarms, watch your battery if you don't use the bike for long periods, they are only any good if there is someone to take some notice. They are good for me because I will hear it myself if anyone interferes with the bike, I also think that thieves are likely to prefer an unalarmed bike, but I wouldn't like to bet on that.

Thanks for the quick reply i have liked the idea of the acumen for a while just have not heard much people using it.

yeah it seems a good one that (by good i mean cheap)...

the bike i just bought had an alarm but the shop took it off cos it was **** and for a car and did not work at all

so may invest in one someway done the line as i'll be off to uni too

I have the advanced alarm from thar website for £64.99 and I can say it is brilliant. It has proximity sensor, talking pager key fobs etc.

The C11 is also a good alarm, BAPH from this site has one, but he had to fit a tilt switch because it wasn't very sensitive.

I bought a £25 Hawk alarm from ebay and it was in the bin after a week.

I think the C11 is a great alarm though and you should be OK with that.

That C11 advanced alarm does look good

So how is it to fit for a complete new biker with no mechanical skills?

I mean don't get me wrong i can use tools and bits and bobs, not cackhanded, but i have no motor experience what so ever

It seems to have a lot of good functions for the price!

Its really easy to fit. When you buy it you tell them what bike you have and the instructions come tailored for the SV. I am no expert believe me. I only have very basic knowledge and it took me about 2 hours.

All really easy to do. Works like a charm as well. The pagers are brilliant. I have one by my bed side to wake me if any one tries to take the bike.

For £65 you can't go wrong. I am not sure how well they last, but mine has been fine so far.

was swaying towards the acumen mainly cos could get it in local HG, but ever so tempted now with the cyclone advanced alarm what to do what to do :confused:

I went through the same thoughts as you. The thing that swung it for me was the amount of features you get for the price.

I can honestly say it really works as well.

End of the day it is up to you like!!!
