DIY Gel Seat

I had an idea for a cheap way to make a gel seat using a couple of old computer wrist rests. I bought a second hand seat just in case it was crap.

I then cut up the wrist rests and wrapped them in cling film.

I stretched the cover back on and used a strong staple gun to replaced the staples removed at the start. I have to admit its great and a big improvment on the standard seat.:D

A good way to cut seat foam is with an old fashioned bread knife or if you're feeling flash, an electric carving knife. If you want a supersmooth finish, very carefully run an angle grinder over it afterwards to take the lumps and bumps out. It's a good idea to wear a face mask while doing this as the foam turns to a fine dust that isn't good to breathe in.

I've reshaped lots of seats this way when I was trimming cars for a living.

The seat looks just the same as standard. Hence the cutting out the foam away to keep the old wrist rests and the orginal foam the same height. :D
