Front brake siezing

Um, okay. it's not an SV but a honda....and it's a moped....but I gifured I'd try it on here just in case anyone had experienced similar...

One of my mates was pootling along on his moped when it started to go slower and slower. Turned out his front brake siezed. He left the bike for 20 mins & was able o carry on for a bit then it went slower & slwoer again...then siezed. Eventually he got his bike home, by this method.

Last week a pedestrian stepped out in front of him & his moped skidded down the A3 for a couple of metres. There didn't appear to be any damage except road rash. He was able to ride home okay & into work the next day.

My first thoughts were that maybe the disk had bent slightly & when hot
was warping thus causing it to slow the bike down.

Having had my beady over it - the disk looks fine.

Anyone else got any ideas? The brake fluid reservoir is fine - about on hte half way mark. The dropping of the 'ped down the road may just be coincidental.

Wild random guesses:

Calipers took a knock moving them?
Pads need changing due to riding with brake seized?

I'd say that possibly the calliper did take a bang, as Baph has stated. The piston could well be seized. I would take the disk off and have a proper look that it is not warped. As even if the disk survived the accident, if the pad was rubbing enough on the disk to slow him down even with throttle open then there is a possibility that it will have got rather hot and could have warped as a result.

Nah, I do, it's just that my job involves me pretty much only when the crap hits the fan.

The rest of the time I just goof off, and the directors threaten to sack me. Just one of those things about being in a small company I suppose.
