Sky + for free

Sorry for tempting you in with that alluring title, but I want it rather than I
know how to get it.
I'm coming up to my first anniversary of it so I have all the equipment but if I stop paying they will switch off all the channels which is fair enough, the free channels are fine for me. Just upset they will switch off the Sky+ features as well. Unless anyone knows how to keep that going without paying £25 a month?
TIA

Not sure about knobbling the Sky+, but if you're handy with gubbins there's a Freevo project out there emulating Tivo (the precursor to Sky+ all them years back) - http://freevo.sourceforge.net/

Not sure how the Sky+ works? What happens if you disconenct the satellite box from the phone line? The TV listings are supplied by the satellite signal rather than the phone line so I'm not sure how the system would know?

Also, dunno 100% about this one, but you might need a new card to insert to keep the free channels - think you can get one from direct from Sky - http://www.freesatfromsky.com/

There is a lot of information available as to what kit you need to pick up satellite feeds from all over. I am led to believe that you will not be able to pick up the sky channels but there is supposed to be a lot more out there with broken encryption that you can get with the right box/patch and dish

I beleive that you can just pay sky the £10 a month to keep the sky+ features enabled..... give them a ring and ask.

Sky channels are available should you point your dish at the right satellite. There's a couple of satellites that broadcast them unencrypted.

The Sky+ features (like recording), I have no idea about. I reckon these are enabled by the card that Sky send out every once in a while (I know the EDS/NDS encryption key is on the card).

Unplugging from the phone line stops any updates that Sky want to send you. I still love the way they hide the "Call home" signal inside their broadcasts, so that you call them, rather than them having to call you. Someone was wearing their thinking cap that day!

Thanks so far, The phone line has never been connected for the past year but i can assure you that does not stop them switching off pay channels or sky+ (free channels continued to work so don't expect to need a new card).
Have asked on that forum, but not really intersted in other channels than sky one (but not at £15 pm). Even £10 pm is a bit steep - how happy would you be to pay that to use your video recorder that you had paid £100 in a shop for?

That's great, do you know when? So will I still need a basic subscription to use it or they'll just let anyone with the equipment use it?

Some forum searching later - The £10 Sky+ disappears from 1/7/07. As long as you at least pay them £15 pm for 2 mixes :smt093 I don't wanmt to pay them anything!
