Specs Speed Cameras
Is it a myth, or is it true that the front facing Specs Camera like pictured below can not (YET) get bikes?
http://www.a77safetygroup.com/conten...ra%20Head).JPG Only there is tons of these on my way home. They dont do something crazy like get capture you from behind on the opposite side of the road do they? Obviouslly they will get a picture each time you speed at camera HQ, and if the keep getting pictures around the same time will eventually catch up with you. |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
Specs indeed (that I know of) are installed to get front facing number plates.
However, I wouldn't take that as gospel, and if you take the p*ss & are frequently seen speeding, they'll go out of their way to get you. |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
The entire ring road around nottingham is dual carriage way with a 40mph spped limit enforced with these things.......30mph in places.

Re: Specs Speed Cameras
Check out this link for an example of one guy who repeatedly taunted big brother via the forward facing cameras, and eventually got slapped wrists. Of course gatso's not exactly the same as the specs, but if you get snapped regularly the outcome would probably be the same. Guess the moral of the story is you can only push your luck so far.

Re: Specs Speed Cameras
Yep, my folks are up in Nottingham and they sure do love their cameras up there (the feds, not my folks). From what I understand from the Evening Post, they're getting more grumpy with bikes though.
Incidentally, everytime I drive that ring road, there's a guy selling drugs from a BMX bike near McDonalds at the old Basford part. They never seem too bothered with him :) |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
Thats Nottinghamshire Police for you, they are a great bunch. :smt023
I have watched a police car booking a speeder on the M1 whilst some kids were spitting off the bridge onto cars clearly in view literally 200m away. Defies belief. In summary yes you can do it, but yes you will eventually get caught. |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
I don't think you will get caught with specs, no matter how much **** you take. They rely on matching the same number plate over a short enough time span to realise a speeding offence has been made. They machines that do this will not match pictures of the front of bikes the same way so will not realise that a speeding offence has occurred, this is different to the forward facing Gatso that caught that BMW rider as every picture is of a speeding offence (just needs to be confirmed by reference to the lines painted on the road)
Or am I completely wrong? |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
There's currently a speed limit of 50mph on parts of the M62 near Liverpool while they change one of the slip roads & have it down to 2 lanes. There are signs saying "average speed cameras"... but the cameras are pointing in both directions.
In the outside lane they appear to point towards oncoming traffic and the inside lane has them the other way round - not sure how all thats supposed to work so I've been sticking to 50 on that stretch for a couple of weeks now. Mike. |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
I guy at a bikesafe presentation I attended last week asked about forward facing average speed cameras...The very nice bike polis replied with a big grin, "They are forward facing and read the front numberplate..."
Somebody in the audience did point out that in some parts of England they do have rear facing average speed cams! So be carefull. |
Re: Specs Speed Cameras
I've noticed they have started to spin these things around. On the M25 and M6 :(
