a weekend away
 
im planning to do my first bike rally so will be loading up the bike for the first time with panniers and tent. What do i need to change on the bike if anything?:why: and yes a few girlie comforts if possible. ive never carried anything bike is set as it came

I think it's just suspension that usually needs adjusting. Just remember to increase your braking distance if you plan on adding a bit of weight to the bike.

never thought about braking thanks for that been consentrating on getting the equal weight on both sides and remembering i would be wider and more surfaces for wind to catch

Afte riding for a bit, espicialy at A road sppeds, you'll pretty much forget its all on there. Its only when you get into a filtering situation that you wanna remember youre a wider load than usual and more unstable at slow speeds.

Keep the panier on the can side a good distance away, it'll sag a bit more after riding a while.

If you smell a funny burning/melting smell pull over and check that first.

Strap everything down adequately, not overly tight but tight enough.

More importantly enjoy your first weekend away on the bike :D

Off to Farmyard are we:D If it's just you and no pillion then don't change anything the bike will be fine! Just make sure everthing is well strapped on.

deffo think about the suspension. I'm 8 stone and sensibly put my heavy duty chain in the tailpack, but forgot to crank the shock. Nearly lost the bike into a field on the first big sweeper as the front end went light.
