Rear Shock Question
 

I bought a 1999 sv 650 a couple months ago and have yet to figure out what kind of rear shock I have on there. It is a coil over with threads running up and down it for adjustment. I am able to raise and lower my bike about 1.5-2 inches. I know it's not a great picture (profile picture) and I might be asking for a miracle, but can anybody give me an idea of what is on there?

If you tell us the colour it is (spring, external reservoir (does it have one??)) that should be a good giveaway :)

The main brand race shocks are normally fairly well labeled/badged to be honest though ...

The shock is red and I apologize that my profile pic isn't working. As far as a reservoir goes, I couldn't see one, but I'm no expert.

Red Spring, looks like no external resevoir, no idea !!!!

I can tell you that it is pretty stiff, I only weigh about 130 and it is quite a bit stiffer than my old 92 yamaha seca II. I do like the lowered seat height though as I am only 5' 6". It puts the seat down around 30.5 inches.

Hmm. It does look very similar to that, but at the top of my coil there are two locking nuts. I can't tell from the link you gave me if that shock has that feature. My shock also doesn't have any distinguishing stickers on it...that I can see.

do you get Hagons in the US? hagon are quite a small british firm

I'm not entirely sure if we get those here. I tried looking it up online, but it was no help. I did find the hagon site though and the tool they supply to adjust the height looks different than mine. I'm pretty sure I'm using the stock spring preload adjuster to turn the nut.

With this new info, I don't know then - Hagon was my best shot from the little pic :D ... but if it hasn't got a reservoir, be it bolted to the top of it or 'remote' (a cylinder on the end of a bit of pipe) then it is more likely to be a 'replacement' rather than a race shock. i.e. some firm is making shocks as an alternative to the OE shock. Or perhaps a shock off another bike (GSXR etc).

Someone will come along shortly and recognise it, but if it isn't badged and doesn't have a reservoir, then I don't think you have lucked out and got a decent race shock!! :D
