Time to get something with more grunt
I have thoroughly enjoyed my SV for the last couple of years but feel the time may well have come to chop it in for something with a bit more poke. I've test ridden a few bikes but found I really prefer the v-twin experience and especially the Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm V-twin experience.
Anyone got any Firestorm experience? I've found Honda vastly increased the tank range in 2001. Any idea how you differentiate between the smaller and larger tank from looking at the bike (without seeing how much fuel you can fit in) If I had managed to find such a useful forum for the Firestorm I would have posted the question there, but given the wide range of baikes adn knowledge of the folk on there, thought I'd ask anyway. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Time to get something with more grunt
Careful, you'll have the anti-bhp brigade on your back.
Firestorm, great bikes. All I remember of my mates old one was that the after-market can used to set off house alarms as he passed. |
Re: Time to get something with more grunt
Can't help with the tank question but I traded up from an SV to a Firestorm.
Great bike  , had CCC cans on mine and that used to set off car alarms too :D Used to handle OK for me too, never found the front end to be an issue as has been mentioned. Took it to St Mont Michel last summer, was getting about 110 - 125 miles between fill-ups cruising at ~120 Was a little taller than the SV but didn't feel too much heavier |
Re: Time to get something with more grunt
I rode one once and it scared the pants off of me. Big yellow fire breathing monster it was. Attempted to open it up mid corner and it nearly threw me into a ditch........there's a pattern emerging here actually.:(
Anyway, I think they are perfect for a weekend toy but I would not want one long term as you have to ride them carefully and with much respect. I prefer spanking the **** off a 600. :p That said I would love an SP1 at some point. Not sure on tank range but I'm sure if you google it you'll get something. |
Re: Time to get something with more grunt
SP-2 is hovering just beyond my field of view, if I look past the 675 Daytona on my dream horizon.

Re: Time to get something with more grunt
Rode an SP-2 for a few hours once... Very strange love/hate thing, when I could let it off the leash it was, well, stunning. All the rest of the time it was awful, honestly one of the least pleasant bikes to ride I've ever encountered. I'd kind of like one for a track bike, mind :smt096

Re: Time to get something with more grunt
Well as it is a long way past my current dream horizon that does not bother me too much Northy, would still like to give one a go.
PS my insurance covers me to ride other bikes 3rd party, anyone on here got an SP2 for me to try?? |
Re: Time to get something with more grunt
3 words: spurious test ride :)

Re: Time to get something with more grunt
Extremely spurious, just need to find some free time and a friendly(ish) dealer....

Re: Time to get something with more grunt
I find my bike helps there- people look at it and think either "More money than sense" or "Desperately needs to upgrade" :)
