Is a cut exhaust the best option?
 

I just treated myself to an 07 SV650 sport and am approaching the 600 mile service. I am thinking of having a new exhaust put on the bike and am considering either Blue Flame or Fuel exhaust in stainless steel oval (although other recommendations welcome)

Question: Is it easy cutting the exhaust and fitting the new pipe?

Is there any benefit doing the whole exhaust and not cutting it half way?

You only have two options, either a can change (which means cutting the exhaust) or a full system, depends what you're ater and how much you've got to spend, whilst the full system will give greater benefits it's a lot of money and fewer companies do them.

However if (like most) you just want a nicer sound then a can swap is the way to go.

Have a look in the exhaust section for options.

I ordered my SS oval yesterday from Fuel - I'll be fitting it early next week, so I'll let you know how I get on - do a search on the forum, there seems to be loads of info and pics on fitting etc...

Just to be aware, if you order via the fuel website in June, you get free delivery (£10 saving). I suppose the decision to make is weather you want the SS oval or the budget SS...everyone has their opinions as to whether the standard is worth the extra 30 quid or so...

Cheers guys, appreciate that. Other than wanting a nice sounding exhaust, i was aware of possible 'invalidity of warranty' which one suzuki dealer told me was the case, if i chopped the stock pipe off.

The actual dealer i chose to use, Bikers World in Daventry have been very good and I suspect it wont be an issue with them, as they are offering a Scorpion exhaust to me and no mention of warranty problems.

With regard to funds for it. If a full exhaust cost more but was worth doing I would consider it. I'll check through the forums for some advise on this.

My wife thinks I am being a total 'gary boy' about this and asks me where bikers hang their fluffy dice! Cheeky mare :rolleyes: .... She just doesn't get the appeal.. I can't say it's a guy thing as I have met several biker chicks who love doing the same thing.

I put my Fuel can on last month. No problems cutting the exhaust, but it is double skinned so it takes a while. You need to bungee the foot rest out of the way. I did about 50% with a 4.5" angle grinder and the rest with a hacksaw. To be honest, the hacksaw was no bother really and You need to be real careful with the grinder as it can jam and jump out of the groove, so if you are not used to using one I would stick to the hacksaw. It should take you about 20 mins with a nice new blade.

I guessed that would be the way to do it. It seems mad taking an angle grinder to a brand new bike I just paid over £4k for. I've chased walls in my house for new power leads, so am used to using an angle grinder and know what you mean about the kick they can give.

Was it worth the effort then? I hear good things about the Fuel exhaust, does it sound a lot different?

If you have a blue bike u have to get the blue titanium Fuel Exhasut. It looks stunning on a blue bike and is well worth the extra few quid.

It seems a bit heart breaking when you cut the old girl up but then once you hear new exhaust u feel you've done her proud

Well I put the budget fuel can on. It looks much better than stock and It is loud enough for me with the baffle in. The baffle is so big it is almost like a straight through can. For £99 I was impressed.
