7,500 Mile Service.......
 

Ok just called Infinity Clapham, where I bought my bike, and who have done all the services to date.

Earliest they can fit me in is 4th July.

Now as I am already on 7k+ miles, I was hoping for this done pre-AR07.

So, do I look around, or do I do it myself.

Doing it myself will involve me looking for someone on the forum in London who knows what they are doing to supervise me at the least, if not do it.

Alternatively, anyone recommend anywhere in/near London?

I've just done the big bits of the 4000m , though as the bike was 2 years old I also factored in anything additional that would be done at the 7500m\24month service.

I = Inspect and clean, adjust, replace or lubricate as necessary

Rt = Replace according to time in operation (Your bike is a K6 so these probably aren't necessary)

Materials required:
Engine Oil
Engine Oil Filter (optional as not actually required by service)
Engine antifreeze\coolant suitable for aluminium radiator Probably not actually required
Distilled water (1l)
Brake Fluid Probably not actually required
Spark Plugs

It's all pretty straight forward. I was a bit intimidated by it but did mine with a mate and it was good fun. A good chance to look all over the bike and get to know it a bit better. Manuals are on the main site to download. Technically you need a torque wrench (I borrowed one) but other than that the tool kit on it should be enough. A socket set makes life a bit easier though.

I bought all stuff needed from M&P online (service pack plus a few brake fluid and coolant)

I know it suggests the service pack is for the curvey but you select your bike put in a pointy and it's the same service pack. The plugs are right, the engine oil can't really be wrong and you're getting an oil filter (pattern) that you don't need to use. You might be able to source stuff cheaper but it's a low hassle way of sorting it.

If you didn't want to go the whole hog but were worried about being late for the official service then I'd do the oil yourself and put it in after the AR.

Bit far to offer a hand really else I would.

Its not THAT far, after all I popped up to the Northampton HG to get my new suspension bits, well its only slightly further than my local one (70 miles as opposed to 3.5 each way) but then the Stockwell branch doesnt have Paws :P

David, give George White in Slough a ring if you don't fancy doing it yourself. I have always found them pretty decent and I'm sure that they could get you sorted in time for AR07.

Well if you get stuck or change your mind let me know. I don't have anything in the diary for next weekend and would be quite happy to help. And TBH I'd like to get out and about and do this sort of thing.

I've just checked and based on your advertised location of Vauxhall (my goodness that really is IN London isn't it) it's 66 miles which is quite do-able though I'd prolly be a cheapskate the bring the CG.

Result - we could maybe look at MY CG at the same time too - chain and sprocket replacement and brakes checked needed - old CG so Drum front and back :P

SV & CG You're starting to scare me :-)

Chain and sprockets on the CG is about as simple as it gets. I think you need circlip pliers for the front sprocket, but I could be wrong. In terms of checking the brakes... I've never thought of that. I mean they aren't exactly great at the best of times. I suppose you could pull the wheels out, open the drum, blow the dust out, maybe emery the insides to clear any tarnish. I did do that once out of curiosity. Can't say I noticed any change in the brakes though. Red '99 CG here btw with complete set of drums :-)

Thanks for reminding me Soulkiss, I thought the service was 8000 miles, read this so went to check my mileage, which is 8500 (gasp), so I'd better get it serviced then.

I won't be going back to my main dealer, they chewed up my swing arm by not holding both axle nuts, on its 4000 mile service, & charged me £130, could've done better myself.
