Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage
Read article here
" Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles." |

Re: Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage
It always seemed a bit of a bonkers car - it's main selling point seemed to be it got 45mpg - Whoop-de-doo :) I've a 180bhp V6 diesel that does 45mpg and I'd wager is a lot more fun than a Prius to boot.

Re: Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage
I always wondered why motorcyclists get nailed for 'environmental damage' with no consideration that motorcycles are about 1/8 of the size without all the plastics and aircon units etc. And then that motorcycles tend to have a longer life span - or get stolen and 'recycled' ;)

It's also the environmental impact of scrapping the car that counts - the most environmentally friendly overall was the Jeep Wrangler. |
