1000CC's, worth it?? ( new bike )

I pulled into work today in the rain on my K5 650s,
into the car park i go to the motorbike park and pull up next to a 100% brand spanking new (with bobbles still on the tyres) GSXR 1000 . . .
i hadnt even stopped my own bike and i was drooling. . . .
so now my batterd SV650s is sat next to a gleaming brand spanker of a bike . . .
my SV has a massive dent in the tank . . . i'm missing a left hand side inndy . . . the fairing is cracked, the lowers are cracked and scratched. and its about as clean as a prozzy... now its sat next to that.... great

Its time to get a new bike methinks and project the 650 ( no one is going to buy it lol )

I was thinking about a 1000cc simply because they are pretty reliable they are fast when they need to be.(generaly speaking of course)

i have options like the gixxer the blade R1 ect, but im not made of money and was looking at the SV thou?
Someone please give me input on the differences between the 650 and the 1000, i want to have an idea what to expect when i get on, are they completely different??? is it worth it? or should i wait and save for a IL4 or get an older ducati 749?

Cheers

LyleJ :)

you need to ride a thou, in my opinion its not like the 650 at all, you would think its like the 650 but with twice the power but the thou feels heavy and it steers slow, tis a good bike tho but you cant rag it like you rag a 650, ive had 3 or 4 nearly offs being to over enthusiastic with the throttle.

Can you still buy a new SV1000?

Even if you buy the latest thing, someone will always have something better. Even a SV1000 would be second to a GSXR.

e.d./fizzwheel.

If you have a search fizzwheel has written a few threads with his thoughts on it.

I pity the new bike you get.....it will be battered/scarred in no time:smt046 :smt067

its funny you say that because my good woman said exactly the same thing,
she said " why buy another bike to smash up " to which i replied " because i want two bikes, one for general comuting and track days the other to be show cased and made to look like it belonged to jesus and i was holding on to it for him. . ." you know what i mean though the kind of really expensive bike you cover up and chain to the floor when not in use and have a baby monitor sat near it in the garage and about 4 seperate alarms and its own personal body guard called Jim.
. . . . you get the point

Don't forget that the 1000 will respond to careful setting up to suit you, the sort of setting up that simply isn't available on the lesser suspension of the 650, set right the 1000 doesn't steer slowly and can be 'ragged' all you like.

as far as i am aware the Sv1000 is either not in producton anymore or is going to be.
As for your battered 650....I have two sv's...
suzy is battered and scarred and at the mo is a bit of a minger. all new trick bits waiting to be transplanted eventually
Dave is gorgeous to look at, never seen rain and black and shiney, absolutely mint and older.Perfect in so many ways
both the same bikes a year apart but soooo different in many ways
They sit side by side in the shed and i cringe when I look at Suzy
Do you know what? I love Dave to bits but I love Suzy so much more....
And i'd never get rid of her cause she's best battered as she is
All that glitters is not always gold
