Jacking up the front end.
 

Sv's are new to me - In my 7 years on 2 wheels, I've only known Suzuki's (well, bar the scooter i first had!), and they've all been bandit's/ gsxr's.

Ya'see, dropping the forks out on the bandit, just entailed some jack-stands (for cars), under the two bottom frame rails.
Now I need to drop the forks out on the SV to replace the seals.

Of course though, the SV does not have these bottom rails, so I guess I'll be in need of a front paddock stand that pops under the bottom yoke.

Anyone got one, and can recommend one?

You don't need a front paddock stand, just get an axle stand under the engine, should be fine (just don't come to me if you bike falls over, wait until someone comes along with technical know how)

TBH I'd recommend an NWS / Abba stand & car jack over a headstock stand, otherwise you're still stuffed if you want to change the head races / bottom yoke. NWS or Abba stands are very solid and stable, dead useful for everything apart from dropping the swing arm out as they use the swing arm pivot points to attach to.

See, the only place I can see the trolley/ jack going, is on the sump, and having seen a jack pierce the sump of a Bandit, I'd rather not!

Plus, it means I can use the rear stand I have already, and have the whole bike off the floor. ;)

An abba stand eh?

See they do a swingarm removal kit as well for those exact moments.
Will have a look into one of these. Be useful to keep the bike off the floor as well come winter storage time.

Is yours a curvy SV? If so they have a hole through the bottom part of the engine where you can thread a bar. Then jack the bike up and put axle stands under each side of the bar.

I always put a piece of wood over the jack cup when jacking onto something like a sump. It stops the point loading of the cup on the alloy then and it'll be fine.

It's when the bike gets put away to sleep for winter, whilst i slide sideways from my village in to work in the snow and rain. :rolleyes:

I use a proper micron front stand, very stable.

As stable as a very stable thing. No need for the paddock stand, unless you're actually taking the rear wheel off too.

And you don't need someone else around to steady the bike, just slide it thru the casting while on the sidestand, start winding and hold the bike upright for the first few turns. Easy.

Cost: £nowt. ;)
