FAO Mr Northwind - New Biffy album

I know you've got to be biased, but what do you really think?? ;)

Only on me 2nd listen and from track 4,they've started to sound very Foo Fighters-ish. Not in it's self a bad thing, but, it was Biffy's own sound that got me listening to 'em in the 1st place!

Well, it's alright I suppose :)

Nah, it's ace, absolutely ace. But just like the last couple it's taken time to grow on me... Actually, that was true of Blackened Sky now I think of it. I still don't like it all, Semi-Mental and that terrible thing, what is it 9/15ths? No sir. I don't like it. But the highlights are just fantastic. It's taken a few live shows for a lot of the tracks to really stick in my head, but again, it was like that with the other albums, I just wasn't so aware of it.

I've a feeling it's still going to end up being my least favourite of their albums. Nothing as good as All The Way Down, or the singles off Blackened Sky... And it's just not as interesting as Infinity Land. But I think it's got more in common with Blackened Sky than with the other 2 albums.

Foo Fighters-ish? Not sure I see that. Maybe on Folding Stars, though I'd say that's more Weezerish (hah, have you heard them murder Buddy Holly on that Kerrang cd? Awful...) Ah, well, actually Machines is a bit Foos-ish isn't it? Yes. But if anything, the simpler songs are going back to the beginning for them, lots of the first album is pure verse-chorus-verse, doesn't actually sound like Nirvana but you can see the influence.

Fair to say, I will not be visiting the tattoo-lasering people just yet.

Razor, if you like the quiet loud, and you don't already have it, go download a version of Hope For An Angel- it's off one of their earlier singles, 27 maybe. I saw a guy throw an entire pint in his own face in shock as they hit the loud bit once, at the Barrowlands. Genius, total genius. I want it played at my funeral, see if I can take some people with me...

Oh dear, what a ramble :)

I think their NZ fanbase may be somewhat limited, Scottish people die on exposure to the sun you know ;)

Nah, but they weren't really known at all til the new album came out (went to number 2 in the albums) Like in Spinal Tap, their appeal is selective...

With all this reference to SPINAL TAP and other metal bands I take it they aren't in the vein of Clannad then?!

They've done folk songs. Well, nearly. But they're... Well, not metal. Weezer-ish, in some ways. Mogwai-esque in others. A dash of Muse perhaps, but not a lot. Hard to describe really. Easier to go to the website http://www.biffyclyro.com/site.htm and listen to the streams really :) At the moment it's running the next and last 2 singles. The first one's not too representative mind.
