How much for a blummin' bolt!
My rear brake needs some attention. If used it doesn't always release straight away when you lift off the pedal but stays on for a seemingly random amount of time (enough to make slow speed control using it very difficult).
So I'm thinking I need to brave a brake caliper strip and clean up. Now I belive it's good practise to replace the piston seals when you do this so I'm looking around online for prices. The rear seals are a slightly eye watering £7.27 from Robinsons Foundry. Having given them as good a going over on the bike as I can I noticed that the hanging pin is a bit worn and I suspect this as a possible cause of my problem. So really I think I ought to be replacing that too. I checked the price of that, which is little more than a bolt... £15.87 At this point I'm thinking of just continuing to ride without using the rear brake. Or possibly pulling it apart carefully and trying to put it back together with the original bits. This, until a unit comes up here or on ebay. |

However whilst I see and understand your point, you've chosen to focus on something I hadn't meant to be focused upon but had put in to illustrate my agaspedness (made up - I'm sorry) and the parts prices. |
Re: How much for a blummin' bolt!
If it was a bolt for a aircraft brake it would be about $400!

Re: How much for a blummin' bolt!
Err - but it's not?
People who own private aircraft in the first place tend to be able to afford the bills that go with them. Especially if they're the type of 'craft that have $400 bolts. |
Re: How much for a blummin' bolt!
The caliper isn't the problem here. The lever is dragging on the pivot, first try squirting a bit of WD40 or similar around the pivot and see if the problem is alleviated, if it is then a more permanent fix is:

all aircraft components are expensive but your first statement isn't true that why most people that have them don't fly much because they cant afford to much |

Cheers SidSquid - I'll have a butcher's tomorrow evening (bit late now).
The lever doesn't move very well and it wobbles on it's pivot an amount too. Is that normal\right? |

My first statement was that my rear brake needs attention. If however you are refering to one of my later statements then I assume you mean the one where I used the word "tend", suggesting a generalisation rather than a statement. If you have some evidence to show that this generally isn't the case, ie that I am "wrong" as you put it, and that actually a significant proportion of 'planes are owned by people from the lower and working classes then please share it as I would be most interested to see it. |

Sorry - re-reading that it's a bit harsh, or at least comes across harsher than I intended. Monday's aren't my strong point.
