heading to scotland
 

so if you were going to scotland on the 11th july, and coming back the weekend of the 15th /16th, and you were heading up the east coast and down the west coast of england from and to london,

what would be the unmissable roads to take in on the way?

i pretty much know where we are going once we get to scotland, its just the uk length i need some help with. on google maps, there is no filter to search for nice windy quiet roads.

and how hard is it to find pub accommodation in england?
if i were in australia, i could rock up to pretty much any pub in any town and get a room of varying quality for about the equivalent of 20 pounds. am i going to need to book fancy hotels ahead of time? or do pubs cater to those on the road here? do i need to mention we are not doing the camping thing on this trip?

We've just come back from a great clockwise coastal trip around Scotland and you can't beat Youth Hostels for value.

Pubs with rooms are pretty few and far between but B&Bs there are aplenty. No booking required but you might have to hunt around for one with vacancies at this time of year.

+1 on the Youth Hostels but those you will need to book as they fill up fast with cheapskates!

Can't help you with roads in England, sorry, except for that portion on the otherwise Scottish A68 through Northumbria which you've probably already sussed.

weather has been quite good to you, til today. but thats cos the Scottish Open is on. it always rains then. it carries the same curse as BSB at knockhill and the Links Market in Kirkcaldy
