Front HT lead popping off

Before anyone says anything - It's Chris, Shells fella posting this up......

I went out for a ride tonight with Shell after fitting her tail tidy and sorting her engine problem out, however we only managed to do 30 miles and had 6 stops due to the front HT lead popping off constantly.

Each time I put it back on and it seemed secure (the rubber grommet arrangement was sitting flush with the spark plug hole). I'm thinking that maybe the HT lead connector is knackered, unless anyone has any other ideas? It seems this was the problem Shell had yesterday when it was only firing on the one cylinder also.

Anyone got any ideas on how much a HT lead is from the stealers, or can you get aftermarket ones??

Thanks in advance,

Chris (on behalf of Shell)

When I re-fitted mine it needed quite a shove to get it to go back on and when it did it definately made a "click" as it did so. Are you sure its just not on quite right in the first place rather than being broken ?

As for the lead I think that you cant just buy a lead on its on I think it might be attatched to the coil and its not very cheap to replace.

I stress I think...

Bit confused. Is it the cap popping off or the lead coming adrift?

The lead can be trimmed a bit and the cap re threaded on again. This'll give more purchase, or the lead can be unthreaded from the coil, at least it can on the spare coil I've purchased and a whole new lead installed. Would imagine any HT lead would do, but that is just my guess.

If the cap is popping off, sounds like the retaining clip inside is broken, or maybe the spark plug hasn't got the correct end on it.

Try pushing the lead through the rubber bung a bit so that the bung does not pull the lead away from the plug. Also test the lead on a spare plug to make sure it does grip properly.Hope that makes sense.

I was going to say what Fizzwheel said. It needs a damn good shove and you should feel a noise when it's in properly.

I had a lot of practise of removing the fitting the plug cap. Untill i got my Fenda Extenda.
