Front cylinder noise
Got a noise coming from the front cylinder area. Sounds like a ticking type of noise..... like a piece of plastic vibrating. So do i need to worry/investigate or is it likely to be one of those things?
I know its diffcult to tell without hearing it but any advice would be good.;) |
Re: Front cylinder noise
Very, very long shot, but could it be the belly pan? I've noticed that on the pointy at least that seems to change the accoustics slightly, almost acting as a drum, there seem to be a lot of vibrations down there so if it's not tight or rubber mounted it could be that, with the echo/drum effect giving the impression the noise is produced higher up?
Do the curveys have that little plastic flap to protect the front spark plug from the wrath of Poseidon? |
Re: Front cylinder noise
Camchain/tensioner rattle is the usual suspect for odd noises like this.

Re: Front cylinder noise
I was thinking cam chain/tensioner... I dont know what I'm listening for but it sounds like that kind of thing....will have to investigate further me thinks!:(

Re: Front cylinder noise
i raised this point quite a few times mate untill i had it figured out for me, and its really nothing to worry about unless its really really loud, i'm on a pointy and i thought it was a problem with my cam chain but its wasnt as i had that fully checked out and it was fine, so it was either the FI under you doing what it does or its the spark plug doing what it does, shouldnt worry about it too much, i know at least 4 other SV owners now who hear the same. with it looking like you have a curvy it rules out the FI. it gets a little annoying when you notice it though and definatly when you dont know what it is.

Re: Front cylinder noise
I sometimes hear a gentle ft-ft-ft-ft (pronounced "ft!) at around the 3.5-4.5k rpm range, whilst riding.
Whilst it's parked and running you can hear all sorts of different noises, but then it is an engine. |
