d*ck off the day goes to me then.

I took the fuel tank off my z750 when it was virtualy empty and left it upside down so that the remaining fuel didnt fall out of the open pipe. (you might already see where this is going)

I assumed the strong smell of petrol was the fuel evapoating from the open hole but in fact it was leaking out the fuel cap upside down.

This has now wrecked the lacqer of the fuel tank and made the paint bobble. So angry with myself dont normaly make mistakes this obvious.

Is there any way the paint can be fixed, I am bracing myself for a respray how much are these for a tank I was thinking £100-150 or am in for a shock.

there was an article in this month's RIDE i think about painting a bike. they re-did their ducati monster, a tiny fairing, the bit behind the seat and the tank cost £900:

http://www.mcnews.com.au/NewBikeCata...Feat_M620s.jpg

but they did have it done with three colours. the article also said that you can do a lot of the painting at home and then get the shop to laquer it - you have to do this because if you use home laquers they are basically crap - professional ones contain isocyanates (the "cyan.." should ring alarm bells) that will kill you if you're not using them properly

if you're interested i expect i could scan the article and send you a copy, or if you get to the newsagents it's the August 2007 edition, the main cover story is "Still got it; Own a fireblade for scooter money"

£900?! you're having a laugh. For all my SV's panels except one side fairing and part of the tail I was £200. And that was from a quality sprayer, good reputation. I am waiting till the winter to do it
So for just the tank you won't be that much as long as it isn't special paint or anything

D'oh!

And you know, the worst bit is, your Z probably has a vacuum tap, so it wouldn't have leaked out of the fuel line anyway :(

The Ducati in ride had a two tone paint job with gold pinstripes...I'm guessing that's why it was so costly :D

That's still stupid money even if it was 2-tone with stripes.

I had this tank painted a couple of months ago by a local quality paintshop. The shine and depth of paint is astiounding, it's the best part of the bike.

Total cost including the decals (which are vinyl and lacquered over) was £110. For that he did all the prep work and filled a dent as well. The red and gold stripes are all painted, not tape.

As I mentioned above there's a paint shop local to me who can do it, want their number? They are in Flitwick between Luton and Bedford, so not a million miles from Banbury.

I got my sv tank resprayed at a local repair shop.
It cost £120 cash.

This damage

is going to cost me £125, but for another £150 he's painting a full GSXR1000 K5 fairing and a K4 race seat unit in the same colour as well. Just got to decide what colour now.
