sv650's are plenty enough for road use but still want a 1000...possibly sv1000

went for a ride out this weekend with a load of my dads friends. went around some really nice roads, very very quickly. most of the time 90-120. top end for the sv, but i was riding with 2 bandit 1200's, a sv1000 and a hyabusa. and i surprisingly kept up pretty well. even they were surprised how well the bike kept up. on the straights i was slowly loosing it, but as it was mainly twisties, i allways caught them up. After the ride out i had a ride on a sv1000, and i have to say it was rather nice. nothing hugely special, no huge power surges, but it was rather smooth and it does feel like you are going slower then you actually are. quite a short bike i thought, and you sit on the bike rather than in it, which i prefer. lower centre of gravity the better. so how many people on here went from a sv650 to a 1000 and liked the change??? although i am still going to keep the sv650 as i now know that it is plenty enough for the roads, and im going to run it till it dies, if i let her that is.

yea it does feel a lot different. not sure weather i prefered it to the 650 or not. cos i can turn in so quickly on the little sv, where as you have to work a bit harder with the thou. think i will have to take it for a longer test run next time, and also try a couple of others. still not sure weather to buy brand new or used the next time either.

Rik, have you tweaked the suspension on your SV?
I have sorted the front forks, and if you think you can turn in quickly now,
wait till you try one with the forks sorted. :smt026

yea i have. i have heavier settings on the suspension all round. heavy weight oil int he front with ohlins springs. and the rear is just a click or two from max compression. i like riding with very hard suspension. can be a bit dangerous at times with the rear wheel pinging back quickly, but means you can turn in a lot quicker because you dont get the sag of the suspension acting against you. and i also have a lower riding position, so it feels like you are more in the bike than on it. different back end on it, but i dont think that makes much difference.
