Doh!

Just spent an hour clearing the long-standing paper towerblocks off my desk. Felt really good about it for a short while - until I realised that now my boss can see my computer screen...

I find a stack of filing boxes (several in trays on top of one another), with a few bits of "frequently used" papers, such as phone nos, etc. taped onto the back/sides, make handy screens. Also complain about eye strain from blurry LCDs and insist on a big CRT.

(depending on the layout of your room) With a bit of work you can get a setup whereby people coming into the room cannot even see you are there until they are along side you. :D

I now have the ultimate (work at home), but I was in the office yesterday and glad I had my old setup still in place. I forgot to mention Tower PCs on desks (as opposed to on the floor/using desktop PCs) also helps. I hate having my back to the door with the screen visible (used to have that when I started working there, but soon changed that!) I don't know why, as I don't do anything I shouldn't in work, but it always made me paranoid. I find the poor chap who sits there now whirls round whenever you come in, even when he's doing work.

Ironically, I find being tucked away behind a screen actually makes you more productive as you don't have people interupting you incessantly. :)

It is for precisely this reason that I don't want a job with a monitor on the desk. I'd spend all day on t'internet and never get a thing done.
