Brands Hatch this weekend anyone?
I'll be there spannering for Danny Imberg who races in Powerbikes class (No-Limits/PLI green Kawasaki ZX10R #4).
If you're there, swim over and say hello. I believe SV650Racer (Sarah) will be there as well, for a baptism of damp fire on a Triumph 675. This is the Bemsee/MRO full GP circuit weekend, so the racing will be bloody good. |
Re: Brands Hatch this weekend anyone?
I hope to get down there but a dry line may be hard to find this weekend.
Good luck to DI.A Kwackman of many years:D |
Re: Brands Hatch this weekend anyone?

And many a spirited performance on that 9R against more modern competition.
I reckon club racing is one of the best kept secrets.I bet only a few hundred turn up to watch, but a day out and twenty races for £12?Bargain. |

Nobody I've spoken to has a clue why they persisted with that ZX9R, it was really so hopelessly outclassed before they even bought it, but he did try his damndest to win on it. It was never considered a contender aginst the likes of R1s and GSXR1000s, but he was beating them. It's the same story with his 2004 model ZX10R - no-one else really gives them the time of day as competetive race bikes, but his is putting him on the podium at every meeting I've been to with him for the last 18 months. I reckon it's an underdog complex... |

Anyone need me to hold a spanner or something in place while they wack something with a big hammer? Matt |

Re: Brands Hatch this weekend anyone?
It was a good day, temps hit 32 deg C in the paddock in mid-afternoon with not a drop of rain all day. Yesterday was changeable and Danny didn't go out for second qualifying as it was wet. He'd already done a decent enough time on slicks with rain spitting, and wasn't going to better it on wets, so left it be. After second qualifying came the Superpole race, which Danny got 3rd place in, putting him on front row for Sunday's fun and games. While the rest of the team and supporters went to the bar to get sloshed and collect a trophy and hat, I spent the evening doing what I signed up to do, stripping and replacing the newly fitted clutch because it was too grabby and jerky off the line, and then changing the gearing to suit the long back straight on the GP circuit as the bike wasn't getting close to revving out.
Today was a blinder - blazing sunshine most of the day cheered us all up after the miserable conditions the day before. In the first race there were two non-championship riders who's taken a weekend off doing British Superstock and entered. Both of them are fast, like bloody fast. They took 1st and 2nd places, but not after one of them wheelied off the line and came across Danny and clouted his arm causing him to back off a touch. After getting a non-jerky start (last night's clutch rebuild obviously worked) a bit of a battle ensued and Danny got 3rd - another trophy and silly red hat to take home. Second race was equally as exciting with the two BSStocks guys neck and neck for the whole race, and the championship points seekers clawing away at each other to make some ground. Danny's clutch was perfect again and he got a good launch. The finish was the most exhilerating I've seen in a long while, with South African Ventner coming out of Clearways wobbling like a good 'un under hard power but going off the track and onto the very narrow strip of grass to the left. He was feet off the pegs and bars shaking like mad as he struggled to keep it upright and put it back on tarmac at about 120mph- which he did too late...Steve Mercer had gone round him to take 1st place. Again, my man Dan came in 3rd having put in a 1.32.60 lap - a personal best. Another trophy, but no hat cos they said he had too many now. I told Danny he should regard this weekend as being a full weekend of first places, because to most of the people racing the one-off entry BSStocks professional racers shouldn't really take championship points from the regulars in club racing at this level. |
