ebay - leathers from Lithuania?
Looking for some advice from old eBay pros here. Just wondering if there is a known trade for dodgy fake/imitation leathers. Thing is, my jacket and trouser combo are waaaay too big for me now and I've spent about 3 months looking for the perfect 2 piece on eBay. Now found a possibility but just wanted to check.
They are brand new and are coming from Lithuania. From a seller with 99.5% rating from nearly 4000 items, but all of those that I can see are DVDs. Is there any reason to be worried about knock-off suits from East Europe/East Asia as a common fraud thing on eBay? I bought my jacket, Dainese, from eBay before and that came new from Dubai. Seems genuine to me, but just wanted to check as I don't really want to find out from an accident that they weren't authentic. Cheers all. EDIT: Oh, btw put this in here because I thought it wouldn't be seen if I put it in the Leathers section and I don't have long to go. Besides, it's more of an eBay question than a leathers one ;-) |
Re: ebay - leathers from Lithuania?
Its alwyas a possibility that the leathers are fake...even if they are based in the UK. I would be especially wary if they are a 'designer' brand such as Alpinestars.
Personally i would like to see before i buy something expensive, especially leathers as the sizes are all different! |

Re: ebay - leathers from Lithuania?
Very true both of you. Hmm...done some more searching and it turns out he has sold leathers in the past. There are periodic sales of suits, all by the same manufacturer, and entirely positive feedback about them, not that that necessarily means anything.
Struck me as a weird place to be selling from and I'd be getting them at a very nice price so I'm still tempted but can't get rid of that nagging suspicion. Just seems like leather race suits are a weird item to be counterfeiting. Also, I'd be much more suspicious if we were talking about Hong Kong here, the land of copied absolutely everything. How on earth are you supposed to tell with these things?! For that matter, I can't be sure that my Dainese jacket is real... |
Re: ebay - leathers from Lithuania?
lol...you're right, Lithuania seems odd...I guess they're more likely to be off the back of a lorry than knock offs ;) Either that or the seller is genuine. It's difficult to know what to do tho!

Any last minute advice from anyone else much appreciated, only got about 50mins or so left to bid. Can't work out why someone who sells thousands of DVDs from Lithuania has sold 4 or 5 race suits recently...not a large enough scale to be counterfeit unless they split it across multiple sellers I suppose. Nicked and selling them one by one? Grrr...can't decide. |

Re: ebay - leathers from Lithuania?
We talking completely different i.e. obviously not Dainese at all? Had my Dainese jacket from Dubai for 1 1/2 years now and seems genuine to me.

Went for it in the end but got outbid anyway so nevermind. Live to fight another day, sure there'll be a nice suit in my size along before to long.
