I left a rainy Dublin early Friday morning in order to get to my parents house in Leeds ready for an early Saturday morning start...
http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdn8.jpg On saturday morning I met up with Dave and Tim at Ferrybridge, Andy at Newport Pagnell, and Mart, Hovis, Zombie and Greg at Maidstone. We even got some sun at Dover.... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdns.jpg When we arrived in France, we set off to the bikers loft nr Ostend in Belgium. We got checked in, had a drink and a bite to eat and then started to have a few beers. A good few beers later and two of our more 'rhythmically challenged' members (hovis and tim) decide to dance. Tim was doing some kind of wierd pointing dance.... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdnf.jpg Dave thought it was a competition so decided to do some talent spotting... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdnc.jpg The long day then started to take it's toll and Andy was the first to fall asleep... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdn3.jpg The rest of us then amused ourselves by balancing beermats on the sleepers heads... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdna.jpg As everyone was falling asleep I started to get people upstairs and into their beds. I left Hovis too long and he when I came to get him he had fallen off his chair and smacked his head. Drinking injuries! Was it good Tim? http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdm0.jpg Dave was resisting all attempts to wake him.... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdny.jpg Saturday we all awoke and had the bikers loft 'cook your own' breakfast. Feeling much better we set off down to the Ardennes and, following Tim, did some great roads, eventually turning up at Neils around 6. We got checked into our rooms and then had a bite to eat before going to the local cafe which was like something out of Allo, Allo. The same family have owned it for over 200 years and the current owner can remember serving both Nazis and Americans during the war. He had some interesting taxidermist examples too. On the sunday we did some great roads through Belgium and Germany and after dinner in Addenau (Wiener Schnitzel) the toll road known as the Nurburgring beckoned.Zombie pulling up... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvehn.jpg We split into two groups and bought single lap tickets to start as the weather was slightly overcast. After one lap for each group, The first group went to do a couple of laps. This was when Andy's accident happened. the last we saw of the bike... http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdnb.jpg I decided not to do anymore laps so went to view the others on their way round. Mart had brought his special kinky rain gear and even did 'I'm a little teapot'... (note the cars in the background - Ferrari, Porsche and a new Audi r8 ) http://images.fotopic.net/ypvdn7.jpg Tuesday, up and off at 9:30 for the ferry. 22 hours later and I was getting into bed in Dublin after parking the bike up. I seem to remember Andy being the first to crash last time too - he wasn't on the cherry beers again was he? ;)
Cool pic though - nice to see you guys again even if it is only on film. :( I'm still seriously considering taking my MG next year with the bike on a trailer - maybe staying at Neil's an extra day and take to the track with both. It'll be finance/car restoration dependant - but a definate possibility. ;) |
