Problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd Gear

hi, first of all i have an '05 sv650s with 4500 miles on the clock and i'm the 2nd owner. Since i bought it i have had some problems getting it to upshift to 3rd. Btw I don't do clutchless shifts. However it's not been that big a problem, I'd drop the clutch and still be in 2nd so i would just give it another go. It would always work 2nd time. I should also point out that it only happens sometimes. But this morning i clutched it lifted the gear lever and i could feel it didnt engage so i pushed the lever again and it still wouldnt go into 3rd so then i decided i best drop the clutch as i was beginning to slow-next thing i know the rear wheel has locked up and the back end is fishtailing-luckily i clutched it again and this time it shifted to third but this was a scary moment and sometimes you can be travelling quite quickly before shifting to 3rd so any help or ideas as to what might be the problem would be greatly appreciated

I'd love to know also...have been having the same problem but with shifting from 1st to 2nd. Bit unnerving what with all the rocket-launch 'get aways' I like to do!

Check the oil level, chain tension and finally grease up the gear leaver pivot.

After all those boxes are ticked, see if there is an improvement. Report back and take it from there …

Might be worth checking the clutch is adjused properly to.

The other thing I found was that a tiny little bit of upwards pressure on the lever before you go to change helps as well.
