Help !!(rear end noise)
So when I was returning home yesterday I started hearing this bad loud clanking type noise coming from the rear area of the bike. (03 sv650) I had recently installed a rear fender hugger so I thought it might have been the chain hitting the hugger....Wrong...So I then put it up on the rear stand and noticed when rotating the rear wheel it felt like it was binding up in certain area's of the rotation. (causing a loud clunking noise) So I losend the rear axil and the binding went away !! Everything felt very smooth. But as soon as I retightened it to the spec torque..I beleive it is like 70 ft pounds or something like that...Everything bound up again.
Any Ideas ? |
Re: Help !!
Did you check that you were using the right scale on the torque wrench? ie Nm of fl/lbs.

Re: Help !!
Chain too tight or worn out.
Wheel bearing sh&gged Broken/missing spacer on wheel spindle. Is it very loud? |
Re: Help !!
Chain is with in spec of slack..1.2 in.
maybe wheel bearing.. Also maybe missing spacer. (I took the rear wheel off the bike myself took it into the dealer and had them put a new tire on it. then put it back on myself but was careful to lay the parts out like they came off. This was about 100 miles ago) The sound is pretty loud. Loud enough to where I would be scared to ride it to the dealer for service. |
Re: Help !!
You should have three spacers, two obvious ones either side that go in between the wheel and the swing arm, and a third inside the sprocket carrier.

Re: Help !!
hhhmmm...I will take that thing back off and look for that inner spacer... May have got lost at the dealer or in transport maybe. One other question...Should the wheel turn as free when the axil bolt is tightened as it does when it is loose ?

Re: Help !!(rear end noise)
The wheel should spin freely period!

Re: Help !!(rear end noise)
Maybe your chain has tight spots!

Re: Help !!(rear end noise)
Thanks guys for the advice. I pulled the wheel of and found there was a missing retainer / spacer between the sprocket assembly and the wheel bearing and also both wheel bearings are shot....Probably due to running it without that retainer / spacer...#-o #-o
