How much to rev her??
Maybe sounds like a silly question but what sort of rev range should I be in on my SV650s to get the best out of her?
What sort of revs should I be hitting before changing gear etc?? |
Re: How much to rev her??
9k is peak power i think?
Interesting question though as im always up for more info from the more experienced riders on here just in case im doing something wrong!! Sadly i havent even reached 9k yet, as im still running her in, not long now!:D |
Re: How much to rev her??
Assuming your oil level is ok and the oil within service limits, then I say rev it like you stole it.:smt077
I think I change up around 9k when I'm looking to make reasonable progress, although I don't look at the rev counter much nowadays. |
Re: How much to rev her??
anything over 9k and the powers tailing off.

Re: How much to rev her??
A little bit more than not enough, and a little bit less than too much.
The numbers don't matter - whatever does the job is the right amount, as long as: 1) The motor isn't labouring at very low revs and a large throttle opening. 2) You're not uselessly revving the crap out of it for no good reason. |

Re: How much to rev her??
Well on my restricted beast of a yellow machine, changing up at 6500-7000 rpm is best for me if i want to get the most from the engine; the bike stops pulling after this, and the next cog lets the revs fall back into the majority of the torque

Re: How much to rev her??
I tend not to look at the revs and do it by ear and feel, i think its something you get used to with any vehicle after a couple of hours of riding/driving it.
You can easily feel when your getting nothing more from the engine, and its usually a fair bit below the limiter. |
Re: How much to rev her??
I love the SV's low down torque, so to make the most of this I tend to change up early, probably around 5k if I am pootling, but for hard acceleration changing up at around 8k is usually enough, no point in revving the old girl needlessly. But as others have said, do it by feel and sound rather than looking at rev counter.....
