Oktoberfest!!!
 

hi there

has anyone every been to the oktoberfest?

after a boring day at work i started hatching a small plan to ride down and sample the delights of the beer festival and be served good booze by busty bavarian women!!:grin:

it runs from the 22nd sept to the 7 oct

plan so far is to leave from newcastle and ferry on the party boat to amsterdam on the 20th/21st then be at the opening of the festival on the 22nd and then maybe head back to amsterdam for the ferry back to newcastle

amsterdam - munich 512 miles take in some autoban and for those track lovers nurnburg is on the way to munich so...

anyone already going or fancy joining?

if anyone knows of any good places hostels or campsites around munich would be very helpful!!
also any ideas about the little trip would be really useful

Accommodation gets booked up v quickly for Oktoberfest, went a few years ago and ended up in a hotel in a town 50 miles from Munich and had to get train in and back to get to the beer!

I missed it by a week last year but was hatching a plan for later this year which was scuppered by other plans.... Check out www.alpenrider.com - speak to Paul (Chevy). They are in Austria but will run a bus through to Munich during Octoberfest. You then have the Grossglockner to play on the other days. If you prefer someone in town maybe try PP Travel www.pptravel.com and ask them for accom only.

I'll think you'll find "Nurnburg" is in fact Nuremberg - famous for something completely different

But you can get to Munich via the eiffel region if required....
