Has anyone replaced the SV650 shifter linkage with a pedal fitted directly to the gearbox shaft? I've got a Honda pedal that would be perfect except the spline is different. The Suzuki has a coarser spline. The OEM pedal is a lot longer than I like. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket pedal that will do?

Never seen that done, but Woodcraft make a stubby lever which is a direct replacement for OE if it's the length that bothers you. Or, you can shorten the OE lever by cutting it down and using a bolt to replace the toepiece (with the original rubber over the bolt)

Woodcraft pedal looks kind of fancy (expensive).
I really don't see a reason for having a linkage, actually. The shift pattern won't change if I use a direct mounted pedal and it would eliminate both those linkage joints as well as the pivot. It may increase the travel required to change gears however, but I doubt it. I think it will make gearchanging feel more positive and I'm going to try it as soon as I find one that fits the coarse spline.

It'll give you "race" shift, assuming here that you mount the lever on the gearbox shaft pointing towards the footrest. Pushing the lever down for a downshift usually results in an anticlockwise turn...

The Woodcraft bits are about the same price as a standard lever. But breaking hte standard lever's free ;) Mine's about an inch shorter than standard I think now- I broke it, fixed it, broke it again, shortened it and fixed it again.

Actually it won't reverse the shift pattern. Not that that would bother me, I have my BSA's set up for 1 up, three down (on the right of course). It's strange, after years of riding Brit bikes, I switched to Jap bikes for about 10 years and it never bothered me to switch to a left foot shift. Then I rode BSA's for twenty years before going back to Suzuki and now I find that I really prefer the right foot change on my Beeza's! I still have two BSA Victor's that are one up, three down and my BSA 500 track bike is one down, three up, all on the right. My Suzuki is obviously one down, five up, on the left and my Montesa trials bike is one forward and five back on the left. No wonder I get confused!

Hah, yes, you're quite right, the SV linkage mounts at the top doesn't it. I'd confused myself since it adjusts at the bottom.
