MOT Pass Question re: lights

Hi Folks,

As per my thread here:
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ght=tail+light
I have been having some problems with my tail light.

I have my first MOT at the end of the month. I notice that when the indicators are on (same effect on either side), the top 3/4 leds of both sides of the rear lights (K4 model bike) were quickly flickering, so fast that they just seemed a bit dimmer than the lower ones. The indicators are standard ones and are all working/behaving the same. I'm loathe to replace with a suzuki unit (as others with this problem have done) as I imagine it'll possibly develop the same defect as the original. The top 3 LEDs being dim doesn't bother me nor does it make any noticeable difference in visibility in the real world, it's only an MOT pass I'm concerned about. I understand they're not allowed to interfere/tamper with the bike in any way, so my question is this:

Do you reckon I'd get away with taping up the top 3 leds on the tail lights? The rest of the lights work fine and I'm confident that aside from this, it should definately pass.

I know I could replace with an aftermarket unit, but I am pretty hard up this month and would rather save the £60 and as I've said, I'm not actually bothered by the problem other than it being a possible MOT fail.

TIA.

Re: MOT Pass Question re: lights

it should just be a straight pass in the case of a car that has a string of leds on the rear screen that they use as a stop light ,only 1 has to work no matter how many are in the line

Very kind of you mate. I'm actually going to be down in Essex (CO1 1SN) monday evening next week, but I suppose that's still a bit of a way. Are you back in work yet? If not, I could call through on the way to essex Monday morning (I usually cut through london rather than go along the M25 anyway)?

I've no idea yet, where did you have in mind?

Ah, I need to go up Ponty at some point this month anyway, so that would be ideal. Can you let me know where it is (PM if not happy posting publicly)?

Ta mate.
