The Bike Won't Start
 

I have a 2000 SV650..... Never had any starting issues.... I am going to run through everything tonight but just thought somebody here might have some insight......

I went to get on my bike this morning, flipped the kill switch to on, made sure it was in neutral and left the kickstand down..... it would not turn over.... i got on the bike put the kickstand up and it would still not turn (the starter would not even make a noise)..... i clicked the kill switch back and forth and still nothing happened...... and then i held in the clutch lever while the bike was in neutral and it started.......

i went to the gas station and then it would not start no matter what i did....

It is something either in the kill switch or the clutch i think

this is how you have to start it:confused: did you not hold the clutch in b4?

you could try to bypass the clutch switch

That is not how I have to start it. I usually just flip the key to on, make sure it is in neutral and press the start button.

erm, you mean:

so your clutch switch has already been bypassed?

check to wires going to the clutch lever, they should be connected to the lever, but it sounds as if the 2 wires have been joined together at somepoint,

Generally as standard, you have to have the clutch in and then press the start button (safety feature) - did you buy your bike second hand? Could be possible that a previous owner had bypassed it, but it's somehow came back?

maybe it is already bypassed..... is is a second hand bike..... i dont usually have to bring in the clutch to start it in neutral.... maybe i do.... its one of those things you just do instinctivley and dont even think about it until it does not work:confused:

Bypass all the safeties, theres the sidestand switch which operates a relay also controlled by the neutral indicator, then theres the clutch switch which directly cuts the starter trigger wire.
Check for power at the clutch switch connector, then bypass the switch.
Then check the ignition hot wire is powered, if not then its the sidestand relay or something else (maybe alarm/immobiliser)
If a bump start works then the ignition hot wire is getting power (kill switch and sidestand relay are ok)
If its the sidestand relay then just get rid of it, bloody safety features.

The other possibility is the starter relay itself, test it by putting +ve to the terminal on it that isnt red or black (earth) (can't remember what colour it is, but there are 3 of them there)
