Purolator ML16818 Oil Filter should perhaps be avoided
 

I corresponded with the somewhat infamous author who wrote the pages regarding motorcycle oil filters at: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html He generally rates Purolator filters as top notch, but he does not recommend the Purolator ML16818; I asked him why and he clarified that the ML16818, unlike other Purolator filters, is Made in China and is of very poor quality. The irony is, dealers in my area sell the ML16818 for $7.00 and with a little shopping an OEM Suzuki filter can be had for about $9.00. For $2.00, I'll take the top notch OEM filter.

who makes the filters for suzuki.....they buy them from somewear

Morning all.
I'm not a fan of pattern oil filters period. I find that the cost difference is marginal in most cases, & you have absolutely no comeback if a pattern filter causes an engine to 'go west'.

Manufacturers can be a pain, on the very early Honda SP1's Honda specified a different filter, a customer of mine used a cheapo pattern one on his bike, & knackered some VERY expensive camshafts around 500 miles later, coincidence? I think not!

I always thought that they had them made by Hi-Flo. http://www.hiflofiltro.com/

Might be totally wrong though. They are what i have used in the past on my GSXR and Enduro. Going to get some for the SV.

those and the filtrex ones are OK, used both over a number of years and several hundred bikes without problem.

The most rubbish oil filter I've found was the K&N one for the SV, it might be a perfectly effective filter but after 4000 miles i found it was so badly corroded that it was starting to weaken... Wasn't even winter.

Morning all.
Hi-flo do seem to be ok, I have used these in the past. I've never tried Filtrex, & K&N are absolute W**K! I've seen a couple where the cannister separated from the base when trying to remove it! & they weren't even tight!

The O/E filters are made by the Tokyo Roki Co, whoever the hell they are!
