Back pack
Hi
I'm looking to get myself a comfortable, waterproof and 'safe' back pack that will be able to hold a laptop and other stuff and I was wondering what any of you guys are using ? cheers Ian |
Re: Back pack
Ian,
I previously had an Oxford "humpback" rucksack, but now have a Joe Rocket rucksack. Can recommend both for being waterproof. Can recommend the Oxford for being "safe" as it actually broke my fall from a "highsider" (I was actually carrying my Oxford Revolver lock in it too!) and never injured my back at all. The Oxford also came with a waterproof inner bag (which kinda suggests that the rucksack in itself is not 100% waterproof, but I never found that to be the case even riding through some very heavy downpours last winter). I've found that the main compartment on both rucksacks has been water-tight enough for me, although the outer pockets are the ones that tend to get a bit damp/wet so don't stick anything water-sensitive in those pockets. The Oxford had to be cut away following the accident, so I had to replace it and would have liked another Oxford, but couldn't find one in time, so ended up with the Joe Rocket one. I wouldn't particularly recommend EITHER for carrying a laptop though (although to be fair, I've never actually tried). HTH, Pete |

I hate having to ride with a backpack - with or without back protector. |
Re: Back pack
I can't understand why all back packs arn't water proof (apart from cost of course). The same could be said about bike luggage. A waterproof knife resistant tailpack for £60 - can't be that hard!

Re: Back pack
Is this the same as the Oxford Humpack you were suggesting? Seems a pretty good price if it includes the back protection?

Re: Back pack
If it's like their bike gear it will be bloody heavy. Sorry, but it's going to be kreiga when I need a new one.

Re: Back pack
I have an Alpinestar rucksack....its the perfect size for what you are describing as I was in a similar situation. I looked at the knox ones etc and they were all to small or funny sizes that wouldnt except a laptop.
It was £30 from pidcocks nottingham. |
