Race Radiator

I've just recently got a race radiator to fit to my 05 SV. What I was wondering is if there will be any problems with discarding the scavenge pipe for the coolant catch tank from the radiator?

Even the race rad will have a cap 'pop-off' pipe surely??? This can be dropped into a catch tank (old coke bottle or whatever), you don't physically need the end submerged in water if that is what you mean??

Sorry i wasn't so clear. It does have a pipe with a seam near the bottom where the original cap would be, but its a smaller diameter with no pipe coming out to attach the hose from the catch tank.
What I'm thinking is to just seal it with a new cap but without the hose. Would this affect it in any way, or do i need it in case of building up too much pressure in the coolant system?

Will post a pic tomorow, bit too cold n dark out the now for taking pics.

I know, but it was a lot cheaper than an OEM one, and I'd been having trouble finding one at a breakers.

No, don't block it off, it is for if/when the pressure 'pops' the safety valve in the cap. You could leave it without anything attached, but if/when it pops, coolant would go everywhere. Just fit any old bit of hose/tube that fits and let it dangle into the stock catch tank, you don't need to make a good seal or anything, just somewhere to catch it. Basically you do want somewhere for the water to go if the caps valve opens - else you could risk - at best - the safety cores blowing - at worst engine cracking/splitting!!! :o

Cheers Blue SV, thats what I'm needing to know. Although now I'm going to have to rig something up for it, as the old cap won't fit.

you need to have an expansion tank and the pipe needs to go to the bottom of the bottle as the system sucks and blows, expanding and filling the bottle when hot and sucking it back in as it cools.
with just a bottle you'll find yourself topping it up frequently.

ive seen bikes burst hoses due to a blocked expansion pipe.

if yours just has a hole then the pipe has snapped off the neck (or its just badly made)

my bottle is about 500ml and it sits half way when cold and 3/4 to full when hot.

O.k., got a picture of the cap side of the rad.
