Storage and starting
Excuse me if this has already been posted:confused:
The battery on the bike has finally given up. With Winter approaching I was thinking of laying it up till the Spring. Does the bike need to be started or is it ok to simply leave it until the Spring as I don't intend to buy a new battery until then. FYI it is an SV650S on an 02 plate. |
Re: Storage and starting
Probably ok to leave until spring. Might be worth draining the petrol out of the tank, as this can settle and gum up lines etc. If you're bike is carb'd, then you might want to clear the carb's to stop them gumming up too, but I'm probably wrong about this...someone will correct me in a minute.
Might aswell leave the battery until spring if you are not intending on using the bike But riding on a crisp winter afternoon can be fun... Matt |
Re: Storage and starting
Good morning..
Many people start their engines over winter & allow them to idle for prolonged periods, in the belief that it helps keep everything going. It's not a good idea, for it washes the cylinder bores, causing them to glaze, & it dilutes the oil with petrol & condensation. I advise my customers to wait for a nice bright day, tog up well, & go for a decent ride. This makes sure all the systems are being used. With the above in mind, I would buy a new battery & an Optimate, (& a set of thermal underwear).:D Cheers. |
Re: Storage and starting
