Just looking at insurance quotes for some bikes I've seen in Autotrader.

Can anybody tell me why the Factory (better suspension, plus some other trick bits) should attact a premium of £150 quid over the next model down with exactly the same engine, bhp, performance, etc.

That kind of difference can't just be down to theft risk can it?

Looks to me like the insurance companies charge more for having the word "Factory" on your insurance certificate!

The factory costs more money to buy new than the standard bike does.

I think it has Ohlins, and OZ forged wheels and none of that lot comes cheap, hence the insurance hike, if you crash it, it costs more to repair a factory than the standard bike...

I suspect thats what it is anyway.

Yeah fair enough. You tend to think of insurance premiums being related to performance or theft attraction. Suppose the ohlins forks, brembo brakes and OZ wheels are right in the firing line at the front end for a lot of accidents. Just looked like a hell of a hike for a bike that doesn't go any quicker!

New cost shouldn't have anything to do with it on an 04 bike though. The 'R was a 7000 miler and the Factory a 13000 miler, put the estimated value on both at 4500.

I'm paying £290 or thereabouts for the SV at the moment, these premiums just show why a lot of folk end up buying an SV!

My Girlfriend's son has just used them to get a quote for My Audi A4 Avant 2.4 V6.

Its probably worth a couple of grand due to high milage but the quote came back as £6266... Third Party Only! :D :D

He needs a better paper round :)

Well thats damn good. I'm in a wee village in Scotland, garaged, 31 y/o and the quote was £822 as you can see above. What are you paying for the SV (assuming thats what you've got)?

I was quoted a while back for a GSXR-1000 K7. They wanted (and I kid you not!) £10,000.00 a year!!

Now THAT is a stupid insurance quote!!

(Esp when other insurers would do it for around the £600 mark)
