reg rec probs maybe
This has been covered before but i'm a bird and need plain answer thats not too confusing.
Today I got the black one out for work. No start. Flat flat noise, click. Haven't ridden on long rides since France, just to work so expected it in the first cold brrr day. Got a power station and jumped it. Got it started and took it for a 20 mile ride. Ok got multi meter from Yorkie Chris and we started to check a few bits and bobs. I also got him to bring me my spare battery to double check it wasn't that. Both batteries sat in my kitchen with 12.7 in em. Put the battery i've been using back in the bike and started it. At idle it runs at 13.8 or there abouts. Put the lights on and rev it to 5000 and the charge drops. Shoudn't it go up to over 14 when you rev it. Took the back panels off and checked the wiring down the subframe on the right( my yellow one had some chaffed ones here so it was an imediate check) they appear to be fine. Taped em back up. Stuck the panel back on and we sat in my kitchen with cups of tea scratching our heads REG/REC or summat else? Thought they did the opposite when they failed and went up in volts not down. Read lots of threads now and still scratching me head:confused: |
Re: reg rec probs maybe
I say reg rec
At 5000rpm with lights on its not charging, showing 12.8v or thereabouts The other thread "charging trouble" gives a bit more detail... |
Re: reg rec probs maybe
took me that long to try and trawl through other threads, I went and wrote this one not realising you'd done one too...such a nice thoughtful young man. I've been told to clean all the contacts on the rg/rec as sometimes they get full of crud and misbehave.....before raiding suzy for yet another part

Also when mine went, i had melted resin on the back of mine like it really did go 'pop' When i replaced mine i put a small PC fan on it to help cooling, apparently its the main cause of reg/rec failer due to the heat not going anywhere behind that rear panel http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a3...h/P1010011.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a3...h/P1010013.jpg |
