Newbie Here, need help.

Hi everyone, Names Pete and i have been riding for 3 years.

Now the bit i need help with is that my new job requires a 40 mile commute which is a bit too much for me on my Honda NSR 125, and i dont want loads of miles on my CBR 600 RR.

So I have found a 2004 Pointy SV for sale local to me, 7000 miles on the clock, alarm/immobaliser, full oxford luggage, and a disc lock. Other than that it is completely standard.

Being a bit of a noob to SV's is there anything i should be looking for when I go to view it?

Also what modifications would you reccomend to have for my commute and just for general use. (I like the Laser twin can set up).

Thanks in advance

Pete

Welcome to the org fellow Pete :)

Don't have one myself, but for commuting how about a nice Double-bubble screen (deflect some more of that chill winter wind)?

Oh and my commute is 100 miles "round trip" and I don't have any "comfort extras". Just a nice loud can :D Suits me fine :D

EDIT: I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but at 7,000 miles the bike will be due another service in 500 miles. Someone with MUCH more experience will be along in a minute to offer some more useful pearls of wisdom. Otherwise, 7,000 on a K4 sounds like a decent low mileage model. I've put 10,000 miles on my K3 in just under a year.

Thanks for that Pete, that helps out.

I'm pretty vague on the SV, but it ticks boxes for me.

Its cheaper than a Bandit, fazer or hornet to insure, looks cool, and is different from my single and inline 4 engines.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Newbie Here, need help.

It is a faired model, no lowers though just the top section.

It is an S model, i have looked at suzuki but the lowers seem to cost a bomb.

Are the Ermax ones a good alternative?

Cheers I'll take a look at some point.

Are there any major things I should look out for when buying an SV, i remember reading about corrosion somewhere. Anything like that?

With regards to the DB screen,

My bike got reversed into last week..damn white van drivers!! :smt071

Anyhow I had to replace the screen, and could only get hold of a standard screen and i could have sworn it seems there is less wind blast.

Maybe its my mind playing tricks :p

What about Oxford bar muffs for the commute? I know they are far from looking even remotely cool but they've helped me out on long journeys in this rather wet and dismal british weather!!!!

Thats a good point SAMMY650, didnt think about them. Cheers.

MrRoper, what double bubble did you have? i'm 6 foot 2 so i think a screen might help out anyway.
