Damn Main Fuse
 

Folks...please help!!

Bike had no power last night, but bizarrely allowed me to arm/disarm the alarm. Took out the battery and charged it overnight in case it was that...but when I plugged it back in the bike still had no power anywhere and now the alarm can't even be set, so it's worse than when I started.

I have not yet checked the main fuse and I have a feeling this is the problem, although if it is blown...what caused it to blow might be a further worry :(

My problem is...where the hell is the main fuse? Driving me mad!! Have done a bit of searching and I hear talk of a green box or something...but I cannot see anything like that. There is a semi-clear box at the base of the tank, slightly to the right side...but if that's it, god knows how to get to it as you'd need mutated little toothpicks for fingers I reckon. Or do I actually have to lift the tank and find it under there?

Confused! :(

Follow the positive lead from the battery. You will get to a decent sized box with 2 main contacts at the top going to the battery and then on to the starter motor. There is also a bunch of wiring going off into the loom. This is the main / starter motor relay. It should have a nice 30A fuse IIRC, and should have a spare fuse attached to it. Please disconnect the battery, THEN play about with it.

Ta for the advice, will go have another look with some form of a clue this time. I think my vision might have been clouded by a little John Cleese-like moment this morning. If there had been a leafy branch lying about, I swear...

If it's a curvy the main fuse is in a green box behind the right hand black trim panel. There are two fuses (or should be). Ones a spare.

are you on a curvy or pointy? I've had a lot of problems with fuses on my K5.
most of the fuses are in the fuse box under the pillion seat, but just to be difficult (I'm sure there is a legitimate reason but no idea what it is!) there are two fuses under the rider's seat on the pointys. Just behind the battery there is a box with 2 cables going into it. The box has a semi-clear cover which click of pretty easily and you can then slide it along the cables to get it out of the way. This is the starter realy & it has 2 green 30amp fuses, one on the battery side of the box & one on the rear side (not sure where this is on the curvys - never had fuse problems with my old one). My K5 blew the battery-side fuse & this took out all the power, including disabling the alarm.

I still don't know what caused it so can't help you there, but its been fine since I replaced the fuse. All I can suggest is keeping a whole lot of spare fuses on the bike so you'll at least be able to get home if it happens again!

Ta folks, it's a k2 curvy. I'm just fed up this morning :(

New clutch last week :(

Head bearings the week before :(

Already had one severe bout of electrical trauma with it that turned out to be loose wiring right at the back that took ages to find...can't face this all again :(

That does sound like a lot of bad luck. How many miles has it done?

20k :)

Got it in March and stuck 6k on it since then. I suppose gremlins are to be expected in a 20k bike, but it doesn't make me feel better about them :(

Must've had a hard life.

Hopefully you'll soon iron out all the niggles and you can get back to enjoying the Sv experience.

Well I found the main fuse (what a hassle) and it was fine :(

Battery fully charged and reconnected...no power whatsoever. Yesterday I could arm/disarm the alarm...this morning I can't do anything at all :(
