Amber / Yellow visor insert

Morning all,

I've searched threads about pinlocks / fogcity inserts but I'm wondering specifically if anyone has tried an amber or yellow insert? This will be my first winter commuting by bike and I've had to change from my black visor to my clear one cos of early starts and I wondered whether either an amber or yellow insert would help with enhancing contrast and preventing misting.

I travel from the centre of Brum to Rugby so all of the journey is under lighting. Also, if I get one are pinlock or fog city inserts better? I have a pinlock ready visor,

Any (related :D) thoughts welcome,

Cheers,
Matt

I've got a yellow pinlock, its really handy on those dull overcast days. Everything appears brighter and it really does help visability.

Yep I have 2 visors that I use, a silver (darker than the standard black) with a clear pinlock in it, and a clear with a yellow pinlock in it.

Have tried the yellow in the dark visor and it works, so considering using yellow in the dark one too :)

Bit rambling, but the message is basically that I like yellow visors, even if due to the colour of new LED traffic lights, they make the green light blue due to filtering the yellow light :)

But it does seem to be a some like it, some dont thing.

Cheers for replies chaps - I've ordered meself a yellow one from racevisors, £14.50 including shipping, can't complain at that!

I decided on the yellow one because I have tried on a mate's oakleys before that had contrast-enhancing lenses so I looked on their website and oakley do a yellow lense or amber lense. Their yellow lense lets through 86% of light and amber only lets through 30%. I'm not expecting the pinlock to be of the same optical quality but I guess the amount of light each lets through must be about the same. Random logic maybe?!

I'll report back how I get on with it, if the yellow's not great it's not too big a deal at that price!

Cheers,
Matt

How are the yellow ones at dealing with low sun in your face btw? I live 45 miles west of work so at the moment tend to go in to work with the sun in my eyes, and then same story on the way back home. Most of the time it's overcast and dull but occasionally the sun breaks through the clouds and shines a little ray or two in my direction.

Rubbish, imo. But your mileage may vary, I think this is a problem tht gets worse the further north you go. Some mornings my illegal black visor isn't dark enough, never mind just an insert. They're better than nothing is teh best I can say about them, I've always considered the hyper optics thing just a gimmick. Still a good product though, and I do find the yellow excellent at night- I don't have great night vision so I'll take any edge I can get.

how do you fit a fogcity? my arai has the pinlocks but the spare visor was not

Just sticks in. Or, you can drill your visor. If you get a Fogcity make sure you get the arai specific one, and fit it carefully or the visor won't shut properly (I got it a wee bit wrong, as you can probably guess, but I actually like it where it is as the visor sits just a hair open and keeps the mist off my glasses, and I can still shove it shut if I want)
