Do we become our own stereotype.

Do we become our own stereotype without releasing it.

For example -
I'm short, a bit plump at the moment, ride a bike and work for IBM.
So that means -
I have short angry man syndrome, jolly, penchant for leather and scaring old ladies on my noisy bike, while being a computer nerd.

Would you all say that is true?

Are you to like your stereotype?

I'm 6'1", not really that plump, have a shaved head, and work in something that has a bad name and people try to blame things on.

I would say I'm not a stereotypical biker.

Of course not, you'd have to ride a bike to be one.

I work in IT and am a bit overweight. I ride a motorbike and have a beard. Conversely, I like dance music, but not drugs. I am doing academic work at the moment, but I am not an alcoholic.

So, 50% of my stereotypes are true. What does that mean?

Re: Do we become our own stereotype.

I'm skinny, 6 foot, long blonde hair with facial piercings (Oh and I'm male). I wear hoodies and baggy jeans most of the time. People always think I'm a stonner. When I tell them I have two degrees from Cambridge and I'm doing a DPhil at Oxford, they always look supprised (I have also worked for a living!). But then again, I did used to smoke a fair amount of gear, so maybe the stereotypes are kinda true.

I don' think the biker stereotypes hold true anymore cos so many different sorts of people ride now. I was amazed when I first joined the org at how many differnt jobs, ages and characters were on here. I guess I had my own stereotypical sort of biker in mind.
