Llangollen Sunday 20th/21st

I'm riding across to Llangolen on either the 20th or the 21st depending on which day is forecast better weather to watch some canoeing on the town falls.

Can any locals recommend me a nice 2 - 3 hour route (loop) to take from Llangolen that will bring me back to Llangolen to watch the canoeing again in the afternoon. It will be over lunch so somewhere nice to stop about half way for lunch on the route will be a serious bonus.

'Fast n twisty' or 'nadgery n twisty' or even 'fast and sweeping'?

Based on the amount of water in the falls yesterday, pray for rain.

I will have my missus in tow who only has 300 miles worth of experience on the back of me so is still slightly nervous. So I would say twisty, and technical rather than fast.

Its more interesting when you have to get the perfect line to avoid serious damage.......its joked that it is why town falls is always the last races of the season lol

Try this....
  • A5 toward Corwen
  • In Corwen take B4401 for Cynwyd (it is on left just before A5 crosses the Dee)
  • The pub in Llandrillo is a nice lunch stop or the Pale Arms(?) at LLandderfel. If it is too early, there is somewhere later.....
  • Follow B4401 to junction with A494
  • Turn left for Bala
  • Turn right up A4212 (road to Tryweryn)
  • Turn right onto B4501 at Frongoch about 1 mile before Canolfan Tryweryn
  • Follow B4501 to A5
  • Turn left onto A5 for half a mile and turn right into Cerrigydrudion at the end of the straight.
  • At end of road, there is a junction with the White Lion pub opposite.
  • Bear right then immediately bear left onto B4501, between HSBC bank and the butcher.
  • Follow the B4501 to junction with A543. After a 3 or 4 miles is the Llyn Brenig visitor center. This is the alternative lunch spot - very scenic.
  • Turn right onto A543 to Denbigh.
  • Turn right in Denbigh onto the A525 for Ruthin.
  • Follow A525 through Ruthin and up the Nant-y-Garth pass (toward Wrexham).
  • At top of pass after 1 mile, turn right onto A542, signposted Llangollen and Horseshoe Pass.
  • Follow A542 back to Llangollen.
Took about 1.5 hours at reasonable pace. 2 hours steady riding. Factor in a lunch stop and you are looking at 3 hours. There are several places to cut the ride short if you need to.

Is that your "reasonable pace" or a resonable pace? :smt017

Errr my reasonable pace...... That's more or less the route we did after the first Border Patrol meet. (where you ended up accross the road on that dogleg bend :reaper:) only in reverse.
