DIY Surgery

I was stupid enough today to accidentally ram a half inch long splinter right down the side of my fingernail. After turning the air blue for a few minutes I toddled off to get the pair of tweezers from the First Aid kit........and there they were, gone!

I then spent a fruitless 10 minutes trying to drag the splinter out with a needle, but it had gone in so far that I couldn't withdraw it.

By this time I was really fed up, and my finger was throbbing like a good 'un, so I resorted to desperate measures. I took a clean stanley knife blade and sliced through my skin to a little below the top of the splinter. Then, by pulling the skin away I could just get hold of the top of the splinter with the corner edge of a bulldog clip I found in the office. Quick tug, and out the splinter came, along with a fair bit of blood

Bit barbaric, maybe, but it did the job. For some reason, though, Pete went all wobbly when he heard what I'd done.:D

All well and good, but make sure you keep it clean to avoid infection and that it heals up properly.

No worries, already used anti-septic on it. This one is minor anyway compared to the time I stuck the end of my finger in the circular saw:D

The bullet doesn't bother me. It's the shrapnel from the shells those damned Russkies bombarded us with in the Crimea that really aches.;)

Believe me, the kitchen is a far more dangerous place. Not only can you cut yourself, there's burns, scalds, smacking your head on a cupboard door you forgot was open...............saw, drills, routers and rivet guns are FAR safer:)

Oooh crap, my kitchen has cupboard doors, boiling water AND saws, drills, routers and rivet guns....

Anyway, congrats on your surgery; just promise that if you get a spot of arrhythmia you don't try DIY heart surgery...
